Reminder that Wheal Hermon and the Cot Valley guided walk takes place tomorrow! All the spaces for the tour of Wheal Hermon have been taken, however, all are welcome for the guided walk in the Cot Valley.
Ben Sumpter, CAS trustee and expert on Cornish mining, will lead a walk in the Cot Valley, from 13.30 to around 17.00.
It will include Cot Valley itself, Wheal Hermon, Letcha Cliff and Ballowall and will consider mining, landscape and geological themes. Wheal Hermon and Ballowal Bal contain some of the best-preserved early lode mining landscapes in West Cornwall.
We will also visit the famous Ballowall Barrow, a complex prehistoric ritual monument.
Unrestricted regarding numbers and membership status.
Both the morning and afternoon walks involve meeting in Cot Valley lower car park (Porthnanven; SW 3565 3086; What3Words: outlawing.zipped.flows), for a walk of around 3 or 4 miles over rough ground. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Note that there is no mobile coverage in the valley so please check directions before entering it.
As ever, please car-share if you can.
