The Cornwall Archaeological Society runs a number of activities for those interested to become involved in. Local experts lead our monthly walks all over Cornwall, through known and lesser known archaeological sites. During the winter months, local and visiting speakers give talks in Penzance on their specialist fields, as part of our winter lecture series.
Additional special events include annual symposiums on recent local archaeological projects. Alongside a close relationship with external archaeological organisations and projects in the county, CAS runs its own excavations, and a number of other research and survey based projects which members are encouraged to become involved in. Members of our society also form the Area Representatives group, who monitor their local monuments and sites. The Society publishes both an annual journal and regular newsletter, available on the website and to members in hard copy.
Walks
The CAS walks’ diary reflects Cornwall’s rich Prehistoric, Romano-British, Medieval, Industrial and more modern archaeology. Taking place on a Sunday every month (except August and December) they are arranged across all parts of the county. The walks range from easy to moderate, across fields, woods or moors and are led by local experts who provide illuminating insights on famous, as well as less well known archaeological sites. You will need to bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing for these friendly archaeological visits.

Talks
During the winter months, lectures are given on a range of archaeological sites and topics. Local, National and International speakers attend to speak on their specialist subjects. The events calendar lists the times and dates of our lectures, which take place at the Queens Hotel in Penzance. A special annual lecture takes place for members in April at our AGM.

In addition to our regular walks, lectures and projects, Cornwall Archaeological Society runs different events to showcase and communicate the archaeology of Cornwall and the South West. These events include a range of talks from local and national speakers. Reports from our past events and symposiums are published in the CAS newsletter.

Projects
The Cornwall Archaeological Society runs a number of projects, both ongoing, such as the Monument Watch programme, and time-limited, such as excavations and field walking. Over recent years there have been a variety of projects available for members to take part in, including the buildings at risk project in North and South-East Cornwall; excavations at St Newlyn East, Carn Galva, Bosiliack, Godrevy and Hendraburnick point. They have also been involved in the Clodgy Moor lithic recording project. In partnership with Saltash Heritage, members of the Cornwall Archaeological Society have been involved with or undertaken Geophysical surveys around Cornwall.
