The next CAS guided walk is coming up soon!

Written by |

Saturday 20th May 2023, The Tin Coast of St Just-in-Penwith

We will walk westwards along the dramatic and history-laden coast from Pendeen and Geevor to Ballowall and then into St Just to catch the bus back to the start, aiming to get back to Pendeen at around 4pm. Approximately 8 kilometres, or 5 miles, of uneven and exposed terrain, including industrial complexes.

Led by Leonard Phillips, MBE.

Starting at 10.30 at the free car park in Pendeen village (opposite the Costcutter shop, SW 3832 3436, or TR19 7DN, or What3Words: resonates.lure.stood).

We will make our way to the coast and Lower Boscaswell tin mine and mill, Geevor mine and then Levant Mine via North Levant. There are numerous mines here, a famous part of the Cornish Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, and we will also see Wheals Cock, Chicken, Hen and Tolvan before stopping for lunch at the National Trust café at Botallack Count House.

On to Wheal Edward and on then into the Kenidjack Valley visiting the Wheel pit and the Arsenic calciner. We will check progress and if there’s sufficient time will visit Cape Cornwall and Ballowall cairn before walking into the industrial town of St Just to catch our bus at 3.30.
