On the evening of 9th of May the St Neot Local Historians are having a walk entitled “Remembering Nigel”: Goonzion Downs was one of the late Nigel Thomas’ favourite walks, with its complicated remains of early and late mining nearly but not quite concealing equally interesting earlier remains like prehistoric cairns and the enigmatic Crowpound. Nigel’s old friend Pete Herring will lead us around this legendary part of the parish. Meet at the Crowpound (NGR SX 1744 6775) at 6.30 p.m. Archive material on Goonzion Downs will be on display in the St Neot and Warleggan Archive (in the Olliver Room of Cott Barn, just down from the London Inn in St Neot churchtown) from 2-5 that day.
All will be most welcome.
