SUMMARY:Hawk’s Tor\, Stripple Stones and Trippet Stones circles and Manor
Common\, Blisland led by Carolyn Kennet and Pete Herring
DESCRIPTION:Meet at the lane-side rough parking east of the Treswigger cros
sroads at SX 12947475\, or What3Words: picked.responded.sleepless\n\nA moo
rland walk in high summer\, and the third this year in which archaeo-astro
nomer Carolyn Kennett puts some of Cornwall’s most famous circles in the
ir astronomical context. A link to the Tregeseal and Stannon walks is the
involvement of Sir Norman and Lady Lockyer at the excavations of the Strip
ple Stones in 1905.\n\nPete Herring sets out these circles’ pivotal role
in the development of experiential landscape archaeology as pioneered on
Bodmin Moor by the late Chris Tilley (‘Rocks as Resources’\, Cornish A
rchaeology\, 34\, 1995). As we explore tor-topped\nHawk’s Tor and the ro
lling downs of Blisland’s Manor Common\, Pete leads discussion of Bronze
Age cairns\, the commons of Blisland manor\, intakes from them\, tin stre
amworking\, granite stone-splitting and subtle second-world war remains of
national defence and then D-Day military preparations. We also hope to re
ach a possible third stone circle on the western slopes of the hill known
as Nailaborough.\n\nAround 4 miles of rough moorland walking. Wear suitabl
e clothes and footwear and bring packed lunch.\n\n[caption id="attachment_
