SUMMARY:CAS/DAS Joint Symposium 2025
DESCRIPTION:Time &amp\; Tide: Life on the South West’s Coasts &amp\; Wate
 rways\nTavistock Town Hall\, Bedford Square\, Tavistock\, PL19 0AU This sy
mposium delves into the vibrant tapestry of life along the South West's co
asts and waterways\, tracing how communities and landscapes have been shap
ed by the ebb and flow of tides\, rivers\, and trade. From bustling harbou
rs\, tranquil estuaries\, and wild headlands to the intricate networks of
 canals\, quays\, and inlets\, the region’s shores have fostered unique c
 ultures\, livelihoods\, and traditions. Daily life\, industry\, and recrea
tion intertwine with the maritime environment: where fishing boats set out
at dawn\, shipyards echo with craft and labour\, and riverside settlement
s reflect stories of adaptation\, resilience\, and connection to the water
’s edge.\n\nTalks will reflect on the varied character of the coasts and
waterways of Devon and Cornwall.\n\nDisplays and stalls will be provided
by Devon and Cornwall Archaeological Societies\, Historic England\, Tavist
ock Heritage Trust and Plymouth Archaeology Society. Participants will als
o be able to visit the Tavistock Ship Painting exhibit in the nearby Tavis
 tock Guildhall.\n\n
