Jackie is an archaeologist specialising in human remains, burial archaeology and cremation as well as being the principle osteoarchaeologist of Wessex Archaeology. Her lecture will cover cremation as a mortuary rite (not only in the context of burial), the relationship between the dead and the living, the interpretive value of cremation regarding past social organisation and identity, and the periods associated with cremation as a custom. Another theme touched on will be the effects of investigating and processing cremation samples during post-excavation.
Archaeology Online is a series of talks that is open to all. Talks will take place over Zoom. The lecture will begin at 7PM with access from 6:50PM. No registration will be required for this session, though entry is limited to the first 100 attendees.
