  DATE\n\nClive Ruggles is Emeritus Professor of Archaeoastronomy at the Un
 iversity of Leicester. Clive has spent a lifetime investigating ancient pe
 ople’s perceptions of the sky and the uses they make of what they see th
 ere. Archaeoastronomy is an interdisciplinary field prone to misinterpreta
 tion and speculation and Clive's particular concern is to find the best wa
 ys to combine approaches from “hard science” and anthropology in order
  to reach sensible and robust conclusions. In 2017 he was awarded the Roya
 l Astronomical Society’s Agnes Mary Clerke Medal for a “lifetime of di
 stinguished work in the overlapping areas of archaeology\, astronomy and t
 he history of science". He is also a former President of the Prehistoric S
 ociety.
