DESCRIPTION:The ‘Vikings’\, the ‘Viking Age’\, the ‘Viking world
 ’ and the ‘Viking diaspora’ are a never-ending source of popular fas
 cination but also misinformation and disinformation in today’s global an
 d digitally connected world. This talk tackles two interconnected problems
  that archaeologists have long struggled with: (1) how do archaeologists r
 ethink the Viking Age and (2) how do we best tell the stories we reveal fr
 om archaeological data about Vikings for today’s world? To answer this q
 uestion\, Howard looks at burial evidence to consider fresh ways of interp
 reting ‘Viking’ death rituals and new strategies for sharing this work
  to audiences in the early 21st century. Together this leads to a third ch
 allenge: how and to what extent can we apply this to western Britain\, inc
