SUMMARY:2023 Walk Programme - Cowlands and Old Kea led by Nigel Baker
DESCRIPTION:This is the second part of our examination of the eastern or ho
me part of the parish of Kea. It will take us through anciently enclosed l
and (with medieval farming settlements and field patterns)\, ancient semi-
natural woodland (subjected to coppicing)\, and beside anciently navigated
and exploited tidal creeks\, branches of the Fal and Truro Rivers. Approx
imately 6 kilometres or 3.75 miles of mixed terrain\, including woodland a
nd footpaths through farmland.\n\nLed again by Nigel Baker\, who took CAS
on a memorable exploration of the land around Halwyn and Coombe in 2022.\n
\nThe looping walk will commence at 10:30 am beside the broad ridgeway lan
 e at Lower Lanner (SW 8358 4137\; What3Words: shallower.nimbly.singing). W
e will walk through Cowlands Wood\, beside Cowlands Creek and then around
by Treloggas and Higher Lanner to the site of an important medieval cross
on the ridge west of Lower Lanner. Down a long lane with glorious views to
the romantically ruined church of Old Kea where we will check the time an
d consider heading north down the old lane to the passage slip that linked
Kea with St Clement and St Michael Penkevil at Malpas\, a place as rich i
n history as it is in stories. Back by the church and Trevean to Lower Lan
 ner\, aiming to return by 4.30 pm.\n\n[caption id="attachment_1950" align=
