Cornish archaeology Online – Ann Preston Jones and Andrew Langdon present Ancient and High Crosses of Cornwall: the Victorian legacy. This talk will give an introduction to the speakers’ newly published book, Ancient and High Crosses of Cornwall. This is intended as a useable guide to one hundred of the best early medieval and medieval crosses in Cornwall. Using examples of monuments from the book, the talk will then focus on the contribution that Victorian antiquarians made to the study of medieval monumental sculpture and the impact that the era’s restoration and repair work had on the ecclesiastical landscape of Cornwall.
