CAS Volunteers at Castilly Henge

Written by |

Volunteers from CAS have played a big role in clearing Castilly Henge over winter as part of a Monument Management Scheme funded by Historic England and managed by Cornwall Archaeological Unit. The clearance of vegetation allowed for an analytical survey of the monument by Olaf Bayer and Elaine Jamieson and a geophysical survey by Neil Linford and Andy Payne. The geophysical survey revealing the existence of a hitherto unknown stone circle within the earthwork! For more information, please consult this article by the Guardian.

Cornwall AONB’s Monumental Improvements project will offer further volunteering opportunities at other sites. The Penwith Landscape Partnership is already successfully making use of volunteers. There has never been a better time to work with professionals to help conserve, restore and learn about Cornwall’s rich historic environment.
