How to Join
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
The Cornwall Archaeological Society, with its roots extending back to the West Cornwall
Field Club (founded in 1935), is the leading organisation for Cornwall's archaeologists, both
amateur and professional.
The benefits of membership include:
WALKS
Every month there is an archaeological walk somewhere in Cornwall led by one of our
members or an invited expert.
TALKS
During the Winter months talks are given at centres in Truro and Liskeard by speakers,
national and local (and including members) who are specialists in their field of interest.
ACTIVITIES
The Society gives opportunities for those interested in practical archaeology to participate in
fieldwork and learn archaeological techniques from experts. Members often take part in
excavations run by the Society and the Cornwall County Council's Historic Environment
Service (HES). The Society and the HES work in partnership and members' contribution to
the work of the HES is greatly appreciated. Recent activities have included field walking,
identification of finds and registering them in the Historic Environment Register,
archaeological illustration and excavation of a previously un-investigated site.
JOURNAL AND NEWSLETTERS
The Society produces three Newsletters a year, which contain news of Society activities,
archaeological happenings, walks, talks, meetings, symposia and special events throughout
Cornwall. An important membership benefit, this 8-page, A4-sized newsletter is packed full
with interesting information for everyone with a love of Cornish archaeology.
The Society's annual journal, Cornish Archaeology, is considered one of the best
archaeological publications by a local society in the country. This reports on many of the
archaeological happenings in Cornwall by members and others.
