St Mary's, Isles of Scilly
Charlie Johns will show us around St Mary’s including some of the medieval sites of Old Town, the church, Harold Wilson’s grave, Castle Ennor and the old quay. Then on to Giant’s Castle IA promontory fort, the BA entrance grave cemetery on Porth Hellick Down, Toll’s Hill with Civil War batteries and if the tide is out kelp pits, prehistoric boundaries and Civil War redoubt on Toll’s Island. After lunch at Cove Vean cafe we will cut across to the othert side of the island to look at Bant’s Carn entrance grave, bthe RB settlement on Halangy Down and BA/IA remains exposed in the cliff face at Halangy Porth. From there its a walk along the cliff path to Hugh Town perhaps stopping for tea st Juliet’s Garden. Included also maybe a visit to the Isles of Scilly museum.
